Is
located 350to 700 meters above Val Cavallina, between the
lago di Gaiano and Monte Glemo.
Characteristic of this wide territory of almost 600 meters are
the sources of icy air down in the small valley. During the
winter large ice blocks are created under the soil. In summer
the air passes through these blocks and subsequently the soil
comes out at very low temperatures (2-4 degrees). This natural
phenomenon creates a microclimate with very particular
characteristics like vegetation that is accustomed to
mountain climates and flora typical for alpine territories. In
fact one finds numerous species like the ‘stella alpina’, the
rhododendron, the gentian, the black pine and the larch, at an
average height of 400 metres. La Valle del Freddo can be
visited in the months of May, June and July, along a constructed
path of which it is prohibited to get off. Leaving from Bergamo
one can reach the nature reserve by car taking the SS 42 in
direction of Lovere-Tonale. After the lago di Endine and
lago di Gaiano, after 100 metres you will leave the SS 42
turning to the right on the dirt track. After approximately 10
metres on the right there is a large square, where you can park.
From here, following the
indications, you’ll reach the entrance of the small
valley.
