ISEO (BS)
Kilometer after kilometer, you will realize
that you will fall in love with Iseo lake so much to return once
more time. And what will excite you more it’s that you will
never finish to discover more and more new interesting things.
The desire to discover such a pleasant place brings us up to
reach one of the most important natural reserves in Lombardia:
The Torbiere’s Reserve. During the journey toward Iseo the road
follows the shore of the reserve, rich in reeds and stretches of
water, where light Water Lilys float. It is worth parking the
car and slowly and stealthily walking on the paths in thick
vegetation, not to frighten the migratory birds coming to nest.
And then, keeping on the right hand side the natural reserve,
crossovering the great roundabout, Iseo is reached: destination
of thousands of tourists arrived from all the world to live a
vacation among treasures of architecture and landscapes
detonated with bright colors. Iseo is placed on east side of
lower lake, but by the main road in few minutes hilly areas can
be reached, as Invino, where taking suggestive panoramic photos.
The crowded Garibaldi Square, with fountain dedicated to the
hero, draws tourists all the day to grant them any temptation:
here elegant boutiques, café, restaurants and ancient buildings
are placed, whose decorated façades in the evening lighten of a
magic ancient charm. The Vantini Palace is a stately building in
neoclassic style, with three levels with ashlar façades.
The Antonioli Palace – dated XVII sec – shows on the façade
frescos recently discovered. On the near Satuto Square the
Arsenale Palace dated XV-XVII sec is located. In Iseo a little
beach equipped with comforts is placed; in the south part of the
town there are two beaches with swimming pools where making a
refreshing bath. The lake-front becomes populated until sunset
and walking is continuous till the small hours of the day after.
The beautiful promenade lake-front starts from the Platani Lido,
where there is a beautiful wooded park with a recreation ground,
to the marina with ample pay parking. The small port in Gabriele
Rosa Square, in the historical centre, is the departure for
reaching a lot of towns by boat. And the evening, puzzled by so
much quiver - to round off the day - indulge in every type of
delicacy nearby the restaurants in the historical centre or in
the lake-front. Here you should taste the local cooking.

Pieve
S.Andrea: |
|
The
Pieve di S. Andrea
is the most
visited of them. The imposing structure of the XII century has a
beautiful bell tower in Roman stile. On the right of the entrance,
the mausoleum of Giacomo Oldofredi. The inside has three aisles,
chapels on the sides and an altar in marble. Several paintings of
various eras. Very nearby the ex-church of San Giovanni Battista
with a two-order façade. |

|
|
Santa Maria
della neve: |
|
On
top of a height still within the village, stands the church
Chiesa della Madonna della Neve. Built because of the
devotion of the people in 1656. From the church-square with big
plane trees one can admire the baroque facade of the church.
Inside is one bay with a tunnel vault. Beuatiful the fresco of
Mary with child and S. Anthony of 1400. |
|
|
|
Santa Maria del Mercato: |
|
On
Piazza Garibaldi stands the wonderful Chiesa di Santa Maria
del Mercato of the fourteenth century. In the one-bay
building, the frescoes of the fifteenth and sixteenth century are
of great beauty and have been recently restored by Zanardi and
Foresti. |

|
|
Castello Oldofredi
: |
|
Beuatiful
the fresco of Mary with child and S. Anthony of 1400. Worth a
visit is the castle Castello Oldofredi of the
thirteenth century, which is now a library, is placed somewhat
above the habitation and therefore dominating it. You reach the
entrance though recently built steps. Thanks to recent
restorations the sharp arch portal and traces of the draw-bridge. |

Buildings
: |
|
In
the historic centre beautiful ancient buildings appear with
interesting decorations: Palazzo Rampinelli of the 17h
century with fresco’s on the facade facing the piazza Garibaldi;
Palazzo Arsenale at piazza Statuto; Palazzo Vantini on
the square ‘Piazza Garibaldi’, imposing construction of 1800 with
ground floor in fake split-faced block wall. Above other two flors
with big windows. Back on the Sebino road in northern direction
you’ll reach Pilzone after few km, which is a fraction of
